About ECA : GOALS

Seigakuin University's English Communication Arts Program (ECA) provides lessons to students based on individual needs and ability. First-year students all take required courses that foster reading, writing, listening, and speaking abilities. English ability development is measured by pre and post course tests.

1. At Seigakuin University, although required courses vary by program, all first-year students take "Reading," "Basic Expression," and "Speaking," for a total of 4~8 credit hours. From their second year onward, most programs offer English courses as elective credit courses.
2. Students in each incoming class are placed into 3~5 levels of classes based on the results of the ECA placement test.
3. Each level has its own unique syllabus and goals.
4. ECA class sizes are small, maximizing opportunity for participation for all students.
5. Most ECA teachers are full-time and accessible to students outside of class hours.
6. ECA teachers hold regular meetings to discuss the program.
7. Goals and contents of each ECA class are regularly revisited and adjusted when necessary.
8. ECA teachers aim to hold classes which foster higher familiarity with English with clear and detailed instruction.

聖学院大学の英語科目（English Communication Arts: ECA）は学生の能力と必要性を考慮したプログラムを提供しています。１年次では「読む、書く、聴く、話す」を統合した必修科目を用意しています。学生の英語力向上は履修前後の一斉テストで検証しています。

1. 聖学院大学では学科により英語履修単位は異なりますが、１年次では「Reading」、「英語基礎表現」、「Speaking」など４～８単位が必修です。２年次以降は多くの学科で英語が選択必修科目になっています。
2. ECAでは入学時にプレイスメントテストを実施し、習熟度別に３～５レベルのクラス編成を行います。
3. 各レベル毎にシラバスや目標を設定しています。
4. ECAのクラスは少人数制であるため、学生は積極的に授業に参加できます。
5. 多くの教員は常勤で、授業外でも学生の対応が可能です。
6. 教員は定期的にミーティングを開き、英語プログラムについて話し合います。
7. ECAは必要に応じて、コース内容や目標を常に見直します。
8. 教員は、学生が英語に親しみを持てる授業を心掛け、きめ細かい指導を行います。
