Professor
John Witte, Jr., Professor of Law and Ethics at Emory Universityfs
School of Law in Atlanta, gave a series of lectures at Seigakuin
University from June 21 to 24, 2006.
The lecture title for Seigakuin University students
was gChristianity and Democracy: Past Contributions and Future Challengesh,
in which he explained the impact of Jesus and Christianity on the
Western legal tradition.
Professor Witte also delivered the lectures gFrom
Sacrament to Contract: Marriage, Religion, and Law in the Western
Traditionh, and gFrom Contract to Covenant: Marriage as Contract
and Covenant in Law and Theologyh for the students and faculty of
Seigakuin University Graduate School.
Finally, Dr. Witte gave a lecture entitled gHow to Govern a City
on a Hill: Puritan Contributions to American Constitutional Law,
Liberty, and Church-State Relationsh in connection with the establishment
of a new Society for Puritan Studies in Japan.
